About the Journal

Aim and Scope

The study and experimentation of Narrative Medicine, in Italy, present a "patchy" and ever-changing situation. If it is true that medicine is not an exact science, educational research on medical and health professions cannot but be interdisciplinary, with the aim of 'reflexively transforming' - by enhancing the narrative perspective - the contexts of professional practices in which it takes place.
The Journal proposes itself as a space for the publication (in Italian and English) of pedagogical contributions that intercept the emerging themes in the panorama of national and international studies related to Medical Humanities and Narrative Medicine and is addressed to the scientific community, students of degree courses in the educational and health professions, professionals in training and teachers/trainers.
Contributions are subject to a "double blind" peer review process, respecting the full anonymity of the author and reviewers.
For article submissions, please follow the instructions and procedures given in the Call for Papers.
Deadlines for submission of abstracts and articles are explicitly specified in the Call for Papers.

Referee criteria

Contributions are subjected to a 'double blind' peer review process respecting the full anonymity of the author and reviewers. The journal's editorial board is responsible for identifying the reviewers, choosing them from among scholars and experts in the field covered by the contribution, if not previously identified among the members of the scientific committee. The reviewing scholars, together with the members of the scientific committee, are part of the referee committee, which is updated annually.
Once the editorial board has verified the relevance of the topics with respect to the journal's subject areas and editorial aspects, it sends the articles to be evaluated to the referees. The referees, within the deadline specified by the editorial board, will provide their comments via the reading track provided by the editorial board. The evaluation sheet will remain on file in the editorial office's archive and the suggestions contained therein will be communicated to the author of the article.
The suggestions provided by the referees, although duly considered by the editorial board, are of advisory value. The editors may nevertheless decide to publish an article. The list of referees will be published in the journal issue, without any specification of which article has been assigned to them.

The reviewers will formulate their judgement, taking into account the following parameters: depth of the topic addressed; quality of the arguments; adequately updated bibliography; clarity and fluency of the exposition.

On the basis of these parameters, the reviewers may make the following judgments:

  • publishable without changes
  • publishable with changes;
  • to be substantially revised;
  • to be rejected.

In the event of disagreement between the two reviewers, the final decision will be made by the co-directors, except in exceptional cases where they may appoint a third reviewer. Finally, the co-directors, on their own responsibility, may decide not to review papers published by invitation or by authors of particular prestige.
