The paper intends to establish a link between the practice of reading and the concept of care in the broadest sense accepted today in the sphere of educational studies and the Medical Humanities. In particular, it proposes a reflection on the potential of the picture book as a
device capable of activating experiential pathways of notable formative and meaningfulness, also in the perspective of the narrative representation of discomfort and its overcoming. By way of example, we choose to present a reading path addressed to the youngest children on the theme of parental separation.
