Artificial neural networks and mirror neurons are two systems that share a fascinating connection with significant implications for the future of Artificial Intelligence. This contribution explores the social impairments associated with Autism Spectrum Disorder in relation to the cognitive role of the mirror system, demonstrating how imitation and motor synchronization facilitated by social robots can engage and activate these neural mechanisms, promoting social learning and empathy.
